Artist Statement
The manipulation of layered geometric forms has recently become the main focus of my work. I use creases and pleats to fold and distort fabric to create 3 dimensional structures and sculptures. Exploring intuitively I stack, layer and mark fabric then join with stitch to create complex networks
I still occasionally make art quilts, the subject of which are most often influenced by matters of social conscience and have emotive or unsettling themes. They hold messages which are intended to provoke a strong reaction.
My process is intuitive, led by ideas rather than a vision of a finished piece. By working on open-ended tasks I explore how the textiles can be manipulated and transformed into sculptured forms or wall art. I like to surprise the viewer and challenge them to question what they see, whether it be the subject of the piece that textiles have been used in unusual ways.
