Artist Statement
Like the haiku, my work explores the essence of an image, memory or moment in time. I find inspiration in the colors and forms of nature, from coastal marshes to canyon walls. I employ a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese dyed technique, arashi-shibori, to create my hand-dyed, pieced and quilted silk wall pieces.

My background in watercolors and my love of building things led naturally to the construction of quilts. Every aspect of my work, from the dyeing to the piecing to the stitching, relies on intuition as well as experience. Just as the haiku have different interpretations, I hope the meditative quality of my work encourages viewers to draw upon their own memories and experiences when contemplating my work.
