Artist Statement
My passion is piecing, and I have developed a technique whereby I use a photograph with a grid on it and create a quilt using 2-inch squares. I call my technique Material Matrix. My favorite subjects are portraits, as they are the most challenging and also the most rewarding. I am intrigued by the fact that only when all the 2-inch squares are sewn together does the final image appear. All my quilts are totally pieced, no fusing.
My background is in commercial illustration and lettering, which was my career for over 30 years. I presently have a longarm quilting business where I do exclusively free-motion quilting, on both customer quilts and my own as well. I also teach my technique both nationally and internationally.
