Matteo in the Time of Covid
39 in(119 cm x 99 cm)
Creating portraits is my passion. In looking for subjects, some images really speak to me, as did the photo that inspired this quilt. My son took this selfie, and the mood of it spoke of the trials of the time of Covid, which has affected us all. It is dark, yes, but also speaks of hope, which I see in his eyes.
Commercial and hand-dyed cottons
Made in my technique, "Material Matrix", it contains 480 2-inch squares, many pieced. It was free-motion quilted on my longarm machine, and a matched binding brings the image all the way to the outside edges. The irises of the eyes are appliquéd circles, and the highlights are dots of white paint
