Artist Statement
I am influenced and inspired by what I see around me. It can be buildings, landscapes, or designs I see in everyday objects. I look for patterns, textures, and color combinations that can be interpreted in fabric. Nature is a source of constant inspiration for me. I have chosen to work in textiles because they are adaptable to a wide range of processes, and I have been working with some form of fiber for most of my life. It is a medium I can relate to, and other people seem to respond to it.
In my landscape work, I aim to capture the simplicity, peace, and tranquility of being outdoors, and I want viewers to feel as though they are truly immersed in the environment I am trying to create. I also pay homage to my Japanese ancestry and to Japanese art, which often focuses on Nature.
