Call for Submissions
Call for Entry Deadline

Interested in having your artwork included in the first SAQA exhibition in print? This brand new SAQA Journal Gallery will be published as a special expanded SAQA Journal filled with page after page of art quilts. This issue (published in December 2024) will be distributed beyond the SAQA membership and will be available for sale.

We are looking for pieces that showcase the beauty and diversity of the contemporary art quilt movement. This is a wonderful opportunity for YOUR artwork to be seen by thousands of readers who include art professionals, collectors, curators, and art quilt enthusiasts.

In addition to being featured on the SAQA website and social media, selected pieces may be eligible for inclusion in a new online sales gallery showcasing SAQA artists. Artists can also optionally select to have their artwork included in other marketing opportunities.

Submissions will be juried by the Collection Review Panel (Alice Beasley, Linda Colsh, and Nancy Bavor). Approximately 40 pieces of artwork will be selected. There are no size requirements nor is there a special theme.

Note that this call is different than the two page SAQA Member Gallery featured in each issue with a particular theme.

** Submissions will be accepted May 1 - May 31

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

  • Artwork must meet SAQA’s definition of an art quilt: "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
  • Wall-hung (2D and 3D), freestanding, and ceiling suspended artwork are all eligible
  • There are no size requirements nor is there a special theme
  • Artwork must have been completed in the past 5 years
  • Preference will be given to artwork not already included in the online collection (which includes SAQA Global Exhibitions, Virtual Galleries, Juried Artist Portfolio)
  • Only current SAQA members can enter this call. The fee is $50 for up to 3 entries.

DIGITAL IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

It is critical that submitted images be of the best possible quality: in focus, with clear details, and following SAQA's digital image requirements. Read Tips for Successful Art Quilt Photography and Submitting Digital Images first!

  • For each wall-hung 2D entry (depth is less than 2 inches), submit one full view front digital image and one detail digital image.
  • For each 3D artwork (wall-hung or freestanding), submit one overall front image and two detail images.
  • Live area of the artwork (not including background) should be a minimum of 2100 pixels on the longest side
  • Full-view images MUST show all the edges along with a small amount of background.
  • Images that do not meet the requirements will not be considered for jurying.

Images should be in focus, properly exposed, and evenly lit. No part of the quilt should be in shadow. The quilt should be the only item visible in the image other than a neutral background.
