The magic of visual art is its ability to convey multiple realities in a single image. This piece is from a series examining the old-fashioned circus and sideshow, where worlds collide. So much about our current era has felt misplaced and surreal, as our safety net frays and the norms of behavior we expect from each other have failed to materialize. It can be funny, and yet it’s terrifying. The outcome is unknown: will the aerialist be saved, or will he fall to his death? The viewer decides.
Materials
Collaged and quilted cloth over armature, nylon cord.
