Tempest Tost

Emma Lazarus wrote The New Colossus in 1883. The Sonnet’s most familiar phrases, begin with the words: “Give me your tired….tempest-tost…” and end with …”I lift my lamp beside the golden door”. Those words are imbedded in this art. In the current political debate over immigration policy and reform, may we never forget that the Statue of Liberty stands as a symbol of welcome. Those seeking our shores for a better life than what is left behind, come with hope and faith.
