I grew up in Hawaii swimming in the ocean every day. Today the oceans face a challenge that I would have never imagined: plastic pollution. Eight million pieces of plastic find their way into our oceans daily, while only nine percent of plastics get recycled. The world’s oceans hold 97% of our planet’s water, feed over a billion people, and help regulate CO2. While creating Plastic Ocean I considered all the things I could do to make some progress on this issue so that my grandson will be able to swim in a healthy ocean.
