Nice Ice #1
In February of 2020, I was part of a photography expedition to Antarctica. As our zodiac boats floated among the towering icebergs, our repeated request to the expedition leaders was to find us some “nice ice.” It was like floating through a museum of gigantic modern art sculptures. This was the first of my “nice ice” photographs which I chose to interpret. The black and grey sky adds contrast, and I exaggerated the shadows and contours of the ice. My piece is heavily thread painted with many different colors and values of aqua, blue, and violet.
Photographed, digitally painted, digitally printed, thread painted, machine quilted
