My recent work is loosely based on improvisational blocks set asymmetrically in a rectangular space. Putting colors together intuitively, I use solid fabrics the way a painter might use paint to engage viewers from a distance, yet invite a closer look. Negative space is an important component, often broken up with narrow monochromatic blocks. Freemotion stitching in variegated thread adds texture and dimension to the finished piece. I use a variety of motifs to add interest and activate the surface of the design in different ways.
