This is an early study where I explored how two distinctly different piecing methods (strip pieced background panels and curved improvisational shapes in the figures) could be combined to create texture and depth in the same composition. This was the first composition that allowed me to see each striped panel as one overall value instead of focusing on each individual stripe. The explorations continue with each new piece.
Materials
Commercial cotton, cotton and monofilament thread, cotton batting.
Techniques
Freehand cut, improvisationally machine pieced, longarm quilted.
