This quilt began with the confluence of my collection of colorful door photographs and a book I was reading by Temple Grandlin. She used doors as a metaphor for transitions in her life, transitions that are especially difficult for autistics. I realized that this quilt about doors was about my son; the difficulties he would face and all the transitions that he would whole-heartedly avoid, his missed opportunities.
