I spent a lot of time daydreaming as a young girl, imaging how my life would change if my body was a little different, taller, thinner, etc. I remember thinking that maybe it would matter less, or I would feel differently, at age 30 or 40. The faces of 40-year-old women looked good—settled in and more secure.

Now here I am in my 40s, certainly not thinner or taller, but definitely feeling more settled in my skin. I appreciate the lines in my face; mostly lines from smiling and too much time spent in the sun. I appreciate the body that allows me to do the things I want and to care for other people. I continue to daydream, now with more thoughts of my place in the world than my place in my own skin.
