I made this 3-D quilt in response to a challenge from my group in Florida. I had taken several pictures of bird of paradise flowers there and wanted to see if I could make the leaves so that they could be positioned and moved, simulating a real plant. I now had a studio to work out of, with lots of mixed media items to choose from so the possibilities were endless! I designed the piece myself.
Materials
Commercial fabric, jewelry wire, rayon thread, batting.
Techniques
Raw-edge applique, fused commercial fabric, fabric wrapped cording, wire work, satin stitching, hand sewing, free motion thread work, machine quilted.
