Translating Music Into Visual Art

Anne Bellas' series is a visual interpretation of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations. This masterpiece features 32 movements, opening with an aria, progressing through 30 variations, and concluding with a return to the original aria.

Translating the musical elements—structure, melody, atmosphere, and tempo—into visual components like color, line, shape, and design was a considerable undertaking, not least because of the volume of pieces involved. 

Each of the 32 quilts is labeled with a QR code, enabling the audience to scan and listen to the corresponding music.
