OBSERVATIONS: Walking in Wonder

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

Local artist Barbara Schneider uses nature as the starting point for creating abstract, sophisticated interpretations in mixed media. Her work is meant to make you view nature with new eyes and provide the opportunity for physical, mental, or emotional reflection. She walked many Conservation District sites and recorded what she saw, heard, smelled, and experienced. She used those observations to create 27 hand stitched textile maps that create a record of her natural journey, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Conservation District.

“It was a wonderful experience to see both the large sweeps of prairies and woods but also the smaller, more intimate treasures the sites have to offer. When I look at the artwork and read the accompanying text, I am transported back to the walk itself. I hope viewers will enjoy the art for the art's sake and then be enticed to go walk one of the many beautiful conservation sites in McHenry."

Reception: May 16, 2021 from 3 - 5pm
