My Side of the Story

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

My Side of the Story highlights the rich Southern tradition of narrative quilting while supporting artists from across the South by providing a platform to showcase their talents. Narrative quilting uses fabric and stitching to convey messages or tell stories. Historically, it began as a way to record history and communicate important information within communities.

In this exhibition, 31 artists created 30 custom 4×4 narrative quilts depicting People, Places, and Things connected to Thomasville. Each quilt offers a unique perspective, reflecting personal interpretations of the community’s heritage and culture, while artists compete for awards celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling. The quilts were judged by SAQA member Valerie Goodwin. Nationally known artist Mary Proctor is featured and SAQA member Erika Zambello has a piece in the show.

Reception: May 1 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm
