Icons of a Rural Life

Traditionally icons serve as conduits—interior representations of reality, not imitations of the real.  Distorted perspectives, elongated or shortened human features, and seemingly simple scenes invite viewers to reflect on deeper meanings and truths.  Each of the art quilts in this exhibit became an icon for
Susan Yanos as she worked on it, challenging her to alter her perspective of the object she portrayed or the experience she captured through fabric.  In turn, they now invite the viewer to do the same.
