In the tradition of the Master Kimono Artists of Kyoto this five-day professional workshop will explore Japanese 'image making techniques for wearables and wall art. Sekidashi ( barrier resist) is the accomplished technique that the finest kimono and sizable folding screens use, seen in major Japanese exhibitions. The class will explore design skills, layout, wax application as well as a variety of dyeing techniques using sansei-senryo dyes and beeswax/ soy wax as a resist on silk fabric. You may complete two to three small pieces in class while learning technique. The transferring of these skills to your own personal work will be encouraged. Visual presentations on the work of seventeen Rozome Masters and rozome history will be included for inspiration and background on technique.
