Candid/Creative: Textile Portraits by Sandy Curran

This exhibition features the quilts of Newport News artist Sandy Curran to highlight her development throughout the years. Her work examines human emotions – a way to exorcise the fears and frustrations as well as love and joy within our lives. Often, eyes, the "window to our souls" are central. For Curran, if the eyes are alive, she feels she has succeeded. While traditional portraits reinforce the sitter’s identity, more expressionist portraiture uses different fabrics to evoke moods and emotions. We hope that you, the viewer, are able to engage with these portraits in a new way.
