"Boro" is a Japanese term associated with the cycle of use and reuse — of wearing something out and mending it, over and over. In rural communities across Japan, mainly before World War II, boro was a way of life. Everyday textiles such as bed covers and clothing were repeatedly repaired using scraps of fabric and simple running stitches. Join the International Quilt Museum’s Marin Hanson for a Textile Talk with boro expert Dr. Yoshiko Wada, in which they will look at and discuss the IQM’s current exhibition, “Boro: The Hidden and the Visible in Japanese Mended Textiles.”
Textile Talks features weekly presentations and panel discussions from the International Quilt Museum, Quilt Alliance, Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), and Surface Design Association. The programs are held online at 2 p.m. Eastern (11 a.m. Pacific) each Wednesday.
