French fiber artist Anne Bellas reimagines Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations through a collection of thirty-two textile paintings, each corresponding to a single variation of the celebrated score. Using fabrics inherited from her great-grandmother — transformed through her own processes of dyeing and printing — Bellas creates works that merge personal memory with the universal language of music.
Rather than a literal transcription, the series offers a visual meditation on the structure, rhythm, and emotional depth of Bach’s composition. The ensemble of works is conceived as a unified whole, inviting viewers to experience the interplay of pattern, color, and texture as an echo of musical form.
QR codes integrated into the display allow each textile to be paired with its musical counterpart, creating an encounter in which sound and image resonate together.
