Witch Hazel: Jelena
(courtesy of the International Quilt Museum)
Witch Hazels from China and Japan bloom in the earliest spring, often in February in New England with snow on the ground. The petals are tiny, less than1/8 inch wide, crumpled straps, truly amazing shapes. The elegant shapes of the twigs and trunks really complement the amazing flowers.
