Walking the Line on Broken Glass

Not long ago, parents were encouraged to raise children to have a high sense of worth, at whatever cost. Some of us took this to mean we were to make life comfortable for them. We enabled them, assuming we were boosting their self-esteem. Ironically, many of that generation now suffer from a lack of confidence. They did not learn how to “walk the line” on their own. Instead, we walked the line “on broken glass” for them, doing whatever it took, often to the point of our own discomfort.
