The production of textiles requires an enormous amount of water and energy, involving the use of many kinds of chemicals. To reduce my own footprint, I have begun transforming quilts I made in the past. In this piece, small rectangles of fabric were fused onto an older quilt and stitched in place. I like to integrate the new elements into the older quilt so that the past is visible in the new image. Will our planet’s past still be visible through the transformative changes we are making to its very fabric?
