Gary Durbin, husband
Sunny Girls was made in my early experimentation with Mosaic Quilts. The girls are my grand-nieces, twins. As I dove into the pictorial art quilt movement, I was happy to have the freedom to use innovative methods, break away from the hand sewn, and be able build my pictures with non-traditional methods. Sunny Girls was huge, and hard to quilt on a domestic machine, but it is still one of my favorites. 23,100 cut squares on a 1/2" grid.
Hundreds of different cotton printed and solid fabrics. Warm cotton batting, nylon tulle overlay.
Mosaic piecing on a foundation; tulle overlay; machine quilted on a domestic machine.
