Sun with Mercury

Fierce Planets reminded me of the term "final frontier" from the original Star Trek television series about conquering outer space. I received permission from my long-time friend and artist, Bonnie Lou Coleman, to photograph a few of her space-themed paintings. Coleman, whose father worked for NASA, created the images as part of a collection based on Earth’s solar system, painted in acrylic on canvas. The original images were inspired by NASA satellite photographs. Sun with Mercury is one of two I selected with spectacular color and contrast. I photographed, digitally transferred, and thread painted the images. Crystals were added to represent the stars.
