I began depicting images of a “fierce planet” after reading that Dr. Sabine Stanley was a pink-haired space fiction fan raised in a community built on a nickel-lined crater. It seems her passion for science began in childhood with a sense of wonder about the world beyond our immediate perception.

In my composition, the little boy (my grandson) uses a simple magnifying glass to look into the world, perhaps beginning his own passion for science. The backdrop communicates the complex study of planetary science. It includes a collage of planets, celestial bodies, stars, water, and other elements. Some of these planets are split to reveal what might be inside.
