At the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I found the school of sardines particularly mesmerizing. Incredible how fast such a large number of fish simultaneously change direction as a group. Also, my school of fish swarm across this quilt as a group.
Starting by designing the body of the fish, cutting it in various sizes using a plotter, ironing them onto the background of gelli printed water and quilted around each one. Amongst the many white fish bodies, a few red ones are highlighting the group.
