Whether or not I ever actually take a river trip through the Grand Canyon, I love to hike there and photograph the changing scenes and light, both along and below the rim. This is my imagining what a river trip may feel like, racing through rapids, the walls of the canyon rising above on each side of the river. After working with the vertical lines of trees for many years, I began moving to the horizontal bands of rock layers so evident in the geology of the Southwest.
