Pieces, Petals, Leaves and Eaves is a digitally pieced collection of silk fabrics and wholecloth quilts designed from photographs of flowers and vernacular architecture. They reference quilt and Islamic tiling traditions. Bellevue Park has fragments of over twenty buildings from the same neighborhood juxtaposed into a plausible landscape that retains the feel of the community. A fading background layer in the middle transitions to a tile sky. The tiles are embedded with fall flowers and architectural fragments. The faux border is maple leaves traced from actual leaves, then pebbled in the negative space.
Cotton sateen top and backing. So-Fine #50 thread to match ground. Double batted with wool and 80/20
Original textile design for quilt top and backing created from my photographs. Buildings and tiles are outline stitched. Hand-guided longarm quilted with some ruler work.
