One in Two Million

A one-in-two-million phenomenon, blue lobsters are one of nature’s rarest anomalies. Their vivid blue coloration is caused by a genetic mutation that results in the overproduction of a particular protein. This biochemical combination creates a cobalt or bright blue hue. Blue lobsters are perfectly healthy and live just like their traditionally colored counterparts. However, their striking appearance makes them more vulnerable to predators. Many that are caught are spared and donated to aquariums, where they can be admired and protected. I hope to inspire awe for the extraordinary hidden in the everyday, and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural wonders of our world.
