Hopeless, Hope, Hopeful reflects a pivotal time for our family. My son Freddie, pictured in the quilt with other profoundly autistic individuals, needs 24/7 care. These children don’t interact, but their moms and I have formed a support network to navigate life’s challenges. This year, after extensive waitlists and scarce resources, we managed to secure a group home for Freddie. He struggled in school, and was frequently sent home due to behavioral issues from a poor classroom fit. This led to aggressive behavior, impacting my work and limiting support options. Through art, I aim to raise awareness about the challenges families of profoundly disabled individuals face, hoping for better.
