The terrible beauty of Iceland’s Grindavik eruption added to my fascination with people residing in such a geologically active area. They use geothermal hot water, piping it into buildings and generating electricity. The pressure building underground is a constant, yet living with threat of lava flow is normalized, using preparedness and monitoring. When the pressure becomes too great, the earth spews out its molten interior and, amazingly, they adapt. Life in Iceland goes on.
