Experiencing the mighty and majestic redwoods in California is awe-inspiring! The redwood species contains the largest, tallest trees on Earth, living for thousands of years despite Earth’s forces. Since redwoods absorb the most carbon of all trees, they play a huge role in reducing greenhouse gases and contribute in a positive way to the Earth. Yet, these sacred trees face peril due to losses from fire, ecology, harvesting, logging, and climate change. I created an abstract redwood tree in the colorful beauty of its life juxtaposed with a colorless tree coping with life’s end. These trees are a metaphor for hope and survival as their mighty branches reach out to each other.
