This quilt represents the life cycle of the silk moth, Bombyx mori. I was inspired by a trip to Thailand and Laos in 2005. In villages we saw silk scarves woven from silk harvested from their own silk cocoons, then reeled, spun, dyed and woven. All the females, young and old, had a role in the production of silk from tending the silk moths to weaving the scarves. I honor the silk moth, Bombyx mori, and the women who have cared for them and created beautiful cloth for thousands of years.
