Bio

I've always loved fabric. The variety of textures and colors is intoxicating. You may describe me as an accomplished fabric "collector", but not an "artist". I'm working on the latter. I'm a retired Navy Nurse who went from five years of active duty into a nonclinical civilian life in the corporate world of casualty insurance and consulting. I completed the remainder of my 23-year military career as a Navy Captain in the reserves while pursuing my civilian work. My work experiences included in-house corporate positions, consulting with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and finally retiring in 2020 as VP for claims for a Long Term Care insurance company. The demands of national travel while working did not allow me the luxury of "playing" with my interests in fabric. I'm trying to catch up on that now.

Before embarking on my corporate career, I had the opportunity to indulge in sewing, including tailoring courses. I once was an accomplished garment maker. Currently, I've been resurrecting older skills with the intent of applying those techniques to more free-form artistic endeavors. I'm interested in abstract applique, thread painting, landscapes, 3-D fiber art, and several other techniques.

The SAQA members I've met have been very generous in sharing their time, knowledge, and talents! It's time for me to give back by helping with the organizational structure if I can't contribute to the artistic aspects just yet. While my Mom was a high school art teacher, she didn't develop my artistic side very much. There's SO much to explore in the fiber art world! Thank you for letting me be part of such an enlightening organization!
