TRANSFORMATION - Priscilla Bianchi

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

In life, the only constant is change.

In 1997, Priscilla Bianchi chose textile art as her means of expression, beginning a journey in which fabrics, colors, textures, and techniques became a language for her life experiences. Over the years, her art has evolved alongside her, shaped by both joy and adversity.

She began close to the American quiltmaking tradition, creating precise, geometric, meticulously structured works. In time, repetition and rules became restrictive. She chose to break free from them, embracing improvisation, intuition, and the unexpected.

Today, her work is more abstract, spontaneous, and playful. She allows the materials to guide her, experimenting freely with form, texture, and color. Her bold use of color brings energy and joy to her work while reflecting the richness and vitality of her Guatemalan Maya cultural heritage.

Once a self-described perfectionist, Priscilla has learned to embrace irregularity, accidents, and imperfection. She no longer relies on rigid plans, measurements, or patterns. Instead, she trusts the process and allows each art quilt to reveal its own path.

For Priscilla, creating is an act of letting go—a way of listening to her intuition and reconnecting with her inner child´s curiosity, freedom, and joy.

Her work is a testament to TRANSFORMATION: breaking structures, embracing change, and finding the courage to begin again.
