Lift Every Voice

Non-SAQA
Exhibition

Join The Griot Museum of Black History as they debut the St. Louis premiere of Lift Every Voice, an exhibition featuring 15 hooked rugs inspired by Elizabeth Catlett's 1947 series I Am the Black Woman! These works of textile art were completed during the Covid-19 pandemic by 14 women across the continent. The artists hope, as Catlett did, that their collected work “be of service” and “work to the end that love, peace, justice, and equal opportunity prevail all over the world.”

On Saturday, June 8th, The Griot Museum will host an exhibit opening with guest curator Maddy Fraioli sharing insight into the process of creating these pieces. Throughout the run of this show, they would love to partner with local textile artists and art groups to uplift the weaving community in our region and highlight the artistry in our communities. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming involved or learning more about the St. Louis opening and subsequent run, please contact Programming Fellow, Ousmane Gaye, at ousmane.griotmuseum@gmail.com or by calling The Griot Museum at 314-241-7057.
