Glorious colors and complex interwoven line designs combine to delight the viewer of these 17 art quilts by Maryland artist, Lauren Kingsland. Her ongoing kolam series is inspired by the traditional designs drawn daily on the ground by women in the Tamil Nadu, Southern Indian. Her artwork combines this eastern tradition of symmetry with masterful needlework skills of American quilt-making. Through this combination we celebrate the extraordinary beauty present in our rounds of ordinary days, no matter where we live.
Through her online fiber art classes for the Smithsonian Associates Studio Arts program, and the Georgetown Lombardi Arts & Humanities program Lauren now teaches students all across the USA, in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and India. Her studio is in Washington Grove, MD.
