Easthampton, MA - The Grubs Gallery at Williston Northampton School is pleased to present Cornucopia of Color, the first solo exhibition by Massachusetts–based artist Ann Feitelson. On view from January 9th through February 11th, the exhibition brings together fourteen quilts created between 2007 and 2024, offering a vivid and immersive exploration of color as both structure and sensation.
Rooted in the traditional, highly ritualized processes of quiltmaking—measuring, cutting, piecing, pressing, and quilting—Feitelson’s work pushes the medium toward painterly abstraction. Each quilt evolves slowly over many months through continual revision, as relationships between color, pattern, and form are tested and refined. Throughout the exhibition, color acts as a generative force, creating rhythm, movement, and a sense of glow and flow across each surface.
The works in Cornucopia of Color range from geometric abstraction to playful imagery drawn from both cosmic and everyday sources. Circles reference planetary systems and vast unknowns, while stripes, florals, and whimsical motifs evoke still-life traditions and small earthly pleasures. Though often infused with humor and abundance, the quilts are driven by a serious intent: to create visual experiences that feel generous, immersive, and deeply human.
Based in nearby Montague, MA, Feitelson brings a background in painting and art history to her quilting practice, drawing on influences including color theory, Cubism, landscape painting, and still-life traditions. While individual quilts from this body of work have been widely exhibited and published over the past two decades, Cornucopia of Color marks the first time her work has been presented in a solo exhibition, offering a focused view of her sustained inquiry into color’s emotional and expressive power.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 1:30-3:00pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
