In linguistics, code-switching occurs when a speaker alternates between two or more languages, or language varieties in the context of a single conversation or situation. Andi Cullins is the product of a biracial marriage, raised in the 1950’s and early 60’s. Growing up, Andi had to navigate living in the intersection of clashing cultures; Black and White, poor and privileged, corporate business and single motherhood. This exhibit features the use of African and other ethnic fabrics, mixed with western fabric to show the inter-relationship of the mainstream and marginalized cultures - each referential to the other. Come explore this exciting exhibit that will leave you with a heighten awareness.
