CLOTH IN CONTEXT: KERRI GREEN, JEAN HOWARD, CHRISS JOHNS
October 6-31, 2026 / Artist Talk October 6, 1-3 pm

Member artists Kerri Green, Jean Howard, and Chriss Johns will join together to present their work at Textile Art Gallery NYC. Although each artist started her creative journey by sewing traditional quilts, their art has evolved into vivid abstract pieces featuring hand-dyed, painted, printed, and quilted fabrics.

Kerri Green, from Dallas, Texas, uses her art to express contemporary themes in present-day life. By emphasizing labor, materiality, and the physical act of construction, Green’s quilts function as both objects and quiet records of time and intention.

From her home in rural Auxvasse, Missouri, Jean Howard  incorporates the vivid colors and shapes found in nature and her imagination. “Through my art,” she says, “I pay homage to my family’s rich traditions in quilting and farming, while pushing the boundaries of what can be accomplished with needle and thread.”

Hailing from Sugar Grove, Illinois, Chriss Johns explores the use of surface design to produce provocative pieces. An unexpected or slightly elusive visual relationship often becomes the point of entry—an element that resists immediate resolution and invites sustained looking.

All three artists invite you to step into their world of contemporary fiber art.
