THEME/CONCEPT:
Contrast in art–the juxtaposition of obvious differences–is an aspect of design that can add drama, elicit a smile, convey meaning, evoke emotion, or guide the viewer’s eye. For byCONTRAST: Echoes, the third biennial exhibition by the SAQA NJ + NY region, we are seeking art quilts that address the overarching concept of contrast with reference to the exhibition’s theme, Echoes. To echo is to repeat, mimic, resonate, imitate, or reverberate and this theme is open to a wide variety of interpretations. The notion of echoes could be reflected in your choice of subject, techniques, materials, or compositional aspects such as the repetition or variation of shapes, lines, or colors. Your artist statement should address the ways your work engages with the theme of echoes within the larger concept of contrast.
