This is a Call for Entries for a State-wide Trunk Show Collection of 12” x 16” works about the Understated Arizona.
What image comes to mind when you think of Arizona? Desert, the Grand Canyon, the London Bridge. Most people have been to or heard of these signature places. Let’s go beyond the obvious.
What is it about Arizona that is that little gem not many people know about, that hidden treasure, that unexpected place that maybe only you know? There are places, a creek, a vista point, a roadside attraction that warms your heart when you think of Arizona.
Our state has a rich history and varied topography that in our minds are unmistakably Arizona.
All Arizona artists are encouraged to make a 12” x 16” piece of art for this collection whether they live in Arizona full or part time, whether they are listed with Arizona as their first or second Region. These works will be a collection of SAQA-AZ artwork that will travel throughout the State. Artists from Bisbee to Yuma to Lake Havasu to 4 corners are encouraged to participate.
The goal being art from all members in Arizona. Yes, you will represent your city, town, barrio or Nation. When the collection is shown in your area, you will have the opportunity to show and talk about your work as part of the larger collection.
The theme for this traveling collection of work is the little know, sometimes overlooked, nuggets of Arizona that most tourists miss, but because you live here and travel throughout the state you know those little gems that make Arizona so diverse, interesting and beautiful. Choose to depict in your work either abstract or representational of some flora, fauna or place.
The finished quilt should measure 12 inches by 16 inches, either portrait or landscape view with the edges finished in some way so your piece is a stand-alone work. Put a narrow sleeve or corner pockets for a slat at the top back of the quilt. Make sure to put you name, title and your town on the back of the piece. Mail the piece to the address below by November 10th.
