Quilting is steeped in tradition through the use of techniques, blocks, shapes, and materials. Each time we approach a project, we pull on our individual and collective knowledge of the art form to create a new and unique piece of art. Artists joyfully explored the concept of derivative work by seeking inspiration from a traditional aspect of quilting and translating it into a contemporary form. Artists were encouraged to explore how tradition blends with personal design style and current quilting trends by honoring the past, embracing the present moment in contemporary quilting, and remaining open to the future of the art form.
