The design with six witches came from playing with the Drunkards Path quilt block, using the edge-replacement fractal-generation method. The title, Witching Hour, was chosen since it is the hour when, in folklore, witches and other supernatural things came out. Witches are also associated with Halloween, hence the choice of black and orange.
