Wildfire! was one of my Tree series quilts. I was experimenting with printing photos on fabric and using my "new" old thermofax machine for screen-printing. Photography has always been important in my work - providing inspiration or, as in this piece, the surface design elements for my hand-dyed fabric. The tree trunks are from photos of the bark of trees burned in wildfires at the Grand Canyon, the silk-screened trees of ponderosa pines near my home and the skeletons of trees that burned during the massive Rodeo-Chediski wildfire in Arizona in 2002.
Hand-dyed cotton fabrics, digitally-printed and screened using thermofax screens
