The inspiration for VisBoomVis (FishTreeFish) was a Bisj or Bis pole, a ritual artifact created and used by the Asmat people of south-western New Guinea, which I saw at the Tropen Museum in Amsterdam. Bisj poles are erected to pay homage to the ancestors, to calm the spirits of the deceased and to bring harmony and spiritual strength to the community. Moreover fishes are though to be the bringers of good luck in many cultures. (The work is round with a diameter of 27 cm)
